Rogue Scenic is the freelance studio of Julia Lee — scenic artist, muralist, and painter of spaces that need to feel like somewhere else.
The name is a small piece of personal history: Rogge (that's Row-ghee) gets mispronounced as "rogue" often enough that leaning into it made sense. And a scenic — industry shorthand for a scenic artist — is exactly what Julia is: a painter who works at the scale of rooms.
Going rogue, in practice, means taking on projects that don't fit neatly into a box. Unusual surfaces, unconventional spaces, tight timelines — these are the norm, not the exception.

Julia's career spans theatre, live production, television, themed hospitality, murals, and immersive experiences. Originally from Boston, she's been based in the Phoenix area long enough to have built abody of work woven into the fabric of the city.
Rogue Scenic began as a freelance practice born out of necessity — and grew into something more deliberate. Working independently means the ability to set the right conditions for consistently high-quality work, and that approach shows in the results.

Rogue Scenic's work can be found across the greater Phoenix area — in bars, restaurants, escape rooms, and on campus. Current and recent projects include Undertow (Gilbert), The Mexicano (Chandler and Scottsdale), ITALIANO (Scottsdale), The Greatest Escape (Phoenix), Tropic Thunder (Phoenix), Devil's Hideaway and Idle Hands (Mill Ave, Tempe), Carmen's (Mill Ave), and select spaces at Arizona State University, where Julia served as Paint & Props Supervisor.

Design
From brand identities and logo creation to email marketing, product design, scenic design, and art direction, I bring a multidisciplinary approach to every project.
Being a multifaceted artist means I can move more fluidly across disciplines, bringing a richer perspective and a deeper creative intuition to whatever project I am working on.
Murals
With a BFA in Theatre Design and Production and a foundation in traditional artistry, murals are a natural extension of the work. Rogue Scenic’s murals span a range of styles and scales — from cloud sky ceiling murals at Italiano in Scottsdale, to a 35-foot island mural behind the bar at Tropic Thunder in Downtown Phoenix, to a linocut-inspired black and white mural with custom branded signage at Wayward in Old Town Scottsdale. Each project draws on both traditional techniques and current technology to deliver the highest quality result, whatever the space demands.
Scenic artistry
With over 15 years of experience spanning theatre, live production, television, film, escape rooms, and themed bars and restaurants, I’ve worked across a wide range of scenic artist departments — building an extensive knowledge of materials and techniques gathered through years of varied projects and collaboration. That experience extends to the administrative side as well, including bid estimates, record keeping, and operating as both a sole proprietor and LLC. I’m comfortable leading crews of painters at all skill levels and equally capable of executing a project independently from start to finish.
Props, Set Dec & fabrication
With experience ranging from notable theatrical productions — including prop work on Fun Home and Kinky Boots, and a props artisan role at North Shore Music Theatre from 2012 to 2013 — to a staff position at ASU where prop techniques were both practiced and taught, the depth of this craft runs wide. Specialties include faux foods, furniture, soft goods, foam carving, sculpting, and light carpentry, as well as hospitality fabrication and set decoration such as the signature vine installations at Undertow, woven pool noodle trees, faux aged books, and custom sculpted mushrooms for an upcoming escape room at The Greatest Escape.
